- Because a public private key pair is used in asymmetric encryption, you’ll have to wait for the encryption to complete because it uses two large prime numbers and an algorithm to make the private key. On the other hand, some time is also required for decryption of the same data at the other end. That’s why asymmetric encryption is slower as compared to symmetric encryption.
- In IZpSymmetric encryption, only one secret key is used to enable access to the encrypted data. Everyone with access to that secret key can easily decrypt the data and read it. On the other hand, a pair of public private keys is used in the case of asymmetric encryption. Public key encrypts the data, and private key decrypts it.
- Asymmetric encryption solves the problem of having to share your secret key in symmetric encryption. It lets you share the private key once, and the data can then be securely transferred without ever sharing the key again, unless you change the pair.
- Symmetric encryption is an aged old method of encryption, and asymmetric encryption is a relatively new method.
